The project carried out at LLC “Anthracite” reduces:
1. GHG emissions through avoidance of CO2 emissions from coal waste heaps burning in the Donetsk Region of Ukraine;
2. Fugitive methane emissions from coal mines by replacing coal from underground mines with the coal extracted from waste heaps.
The Project includes the installation of coal extraction units and the grading of the extracted coal. Waste heaps are processed with semi-steep separators that use water in a closed cycle as an operating fluid. As a result, the waste heap is processed and the coal is extracted. Extracted coal is then sold for heat and power production. Barren rock can be used for land remediation at the sites of abandoned open mines.
