This project is implemented within Luhansk region of Ukraine at waste heap sites used by the enterprise (TEMP LTD-A LLC). Through the use of the improved extraction techniques proposed in this project, the residual coal can be extracted from the waste heaps and the coal can be used for energy needs of local consumers. The reclaimed coal will replace coal that would have otherwise been mined, thereby mitigating fugitive emissions of methane during the mining process. The land is then released from under the waste heap is remediated and returned to the community. The residue after processing, which is mainly barren rock, is used to shape terrain of abandoned open-cast mining sites so that such areas may be used again for development purposes. The technological process and equipment used in the project is the dense medium washing plant that reflects current good engineering practices.
