Energy efficiency improvements at Energomashspetsstal (EMSS), Kramatorsk, Ukraine

The project activity consists of improving energy efficiency at EMSS, a scrap-based electric arc furnace process steel producer, by the implementation of four sub-projects:

1. Reconstruction of thermal and heating furnaces, reducing specific natural gas (NG) consumption per ton of steel heated in the thermal and heating furnaces;

2. Installation of a new vacuum system with dry mechanical pumps that have high dust resistance;

3. Installation of an arc ladle furnace for steel form casting; and

4. Replacing the old pump system for the steel press with a more efficient pump.

With the implementation of the above energy efficiency measures, EMSS will be able to reduce direct and indirect CO2 emissions in its production of steel and steel parts.
