Energy Efficiency Measures at OJSC “Metallurgical plant named after A.K. Serov” UMMC Company

A new electric arc furnace was constructed at the steel plant instead of five open hearth furnaces at the OJSC “Metallurgical plant named after A.K. Serov” (MZIS) in 2006. MZIS is a part of the largest Russian holding – Ural Mining and Metallurgy Company. The electric-furnace steelmaking method is more energy efficient in comparison with the open-hearth method. Also more scrap can be used in this technology and less volume of cast iron.
