The project, initiated by Donetsk Metal Rolling Plant (DMRP), the owner of Electrostal, envisages the construction of a green-field steel manufacturing plant, based on a modern electric arc furnace (EAF). The installed EAF allows production of steel from almost a 100% scrap metal feedstock. Therefore, the primary benefit is the substitution of virgin iron, which requires much energy to be produced with scrap that has no emission as its waste. It is also noteworthy to mention that there is a large reduction in the specific energy (energy per unit weight) required to produce steel. The main project equipment also includes a Ladle Furnace (LF) and a Continuous Casting Machine (CCM).
