Trading of Emission Reductions

The selling of the emissions reductions is the most important phase of the JI project cycle since through the selling of its emissions reductions the project owner takes a long-year commitment towards a certain buyer of emissions reductions. In order to handle your liabilities towards the future buyer you need to be exactly clear on what kind of contract you will sign.

Global Carbon is an independent consultancy company focusing on JI project development and selling of the emissions reductions. The independence of the company ensures that the interest of the seller comes first.

Global Carbon structures transactions and provides brokerage for the JI markets. The Company acts as a pure broker facilitating inter-dealer transactions in wholesale Over the Counter (OTC) markets. Clients come to Global Carbon to get deals done quickly, creatively, and cost-effectively because we understand that success in the environmental and energy market place is about speed, innovation, and knowledge. We have one of the largest portfolios of carbon credits in the world from which buyers can purchase Emission Reduction Units (ERUs).

In parallel to developing your JI project, Global Carbon arranges for an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreements (ERPA) with reliable buyers achieving attractive commercial conditions and an attractive price. Over the years Global Carbon built up an extensive network of buyers of carbon credits. We work among others with the following group of buyers of carbon credits:

• Governments: Austrian government, Belgium government, Danish government, Dutch government, Finnish government;
• Multilateral institutions: International Finance Corporation (IFC), European Bank or Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Prototype Carbon Fund, NEFCO;
• Private: Commodity traders like BHP Billiton or Nobel Carbon Credits, and utilities like Essent.

Not only the price of the ERUs is of importance, but also other commercial conditions. In the sales process we will look at the following options:

• Governmental or private buyer;
• Fixed price or a price linked to the EU ETS;
• Pre-payment;
• Liability for under- or over performance of the project.

Having sold several JI projects, Global Carbon has in-depth knowledge on the different opportunities the carbon market offers. Therefore we will be able to find such a buyer that fits the best to the specific needs of the ERs owner.

Global Carbon supports you throughout the entire Emission Reduction Purchasing Agreement (ERPA) negotiation process. ERPA is a special agreement that sets the liability between the seller and the buyer though the entire Kyoto period.
