Renewable sources

The energy produced from renewable sources is generated from natural resources as wind power, hydro power, solar power, tides and geothermal heat (naturally replenished sources). The main renewable energy technologies that produce no GHGs include:

  • Wind power – construction of Wind Power Parks;
  • Hydropower – construction of Hydro power Stations;
  • Solar power – construction of photovoltaic stations;
  • Biofuel – use of natural produced biogas, liquid biofuel and solid biomass;
  • Geothermal power.

At the end of 2007, the worldwide capacity of installed wind-powered generators was 94.1 GW, although wind produces about 1% of world-wide electricity. Globally, wind power generation increased more than fivefold between 2000 and 2007. Bulgaria has a big potential in terms of conditions for wind power to be used for energy production.

Global Carbon developed the biggest JI wind power project in Eastern Europe that will be constructed in Bulgaria. AES Geo Energy Wind Power Park project consists of 52 wind generators with single capacity 3 MW each, the total installed capacity of the project is 156 MW. The aim of the project is to be produced electricity from a Renewable Energy Source. Thus the project will contribute to the sustainable environmental-socio-economic development of the region.

The emission reductions that will be realized from AES Geo Energy Wind Power Park project during the commitment period (2008-2012) are 884,358 tonnes of CO2e. Click here for detailed information on this project.
