The JI project at the factory Volyn-Cement, owned by Dyckerhoff AG a member of Buzzi Unicem group, aims to significantly decrease the CO2 emissions from two sources: fossil fuel combustion and calcinations.
The Volyn-Cement factory is one of the biggest cement plants in Ukraine having approximate annual capacity of 2 million tonnes of cement.
The project at Volyn-Cement factory consist of the following:
-
it is foreseen to increase to some 15 per cent the addition of non-carbonated raw material in the raw meal fed to the kilns;
-
switch the technology of cement production from a wet process to a semi-dry production process will further decrease the emissions from fossil fuel combustion.
Emission Reductions
The project will start reducing emissions from early 2010 and the total expected emissions reductions are around 410,935 tonnes of CO2. Global Carbon BV is responsible for development and registration of this project as a JI project. The JI project has obtained positive determination and was approved by Ukraine and Germany.
