This JI project has been implementedat the Kriviy Rih Cement plant in Ukraine. Kriviy Rih Cement is a major cement producer in Ukraine. The plant is owned by Heidelberg Cement, one of the world’s leading producers of building materials. Kriviy Rih
Cement was built in 1952 and was modernized in 1983. Since the modernization the plant uses dry production process – one rotary kiln with calciner and multistage cyclone system capable of producing approximately 1.1 million tonnes of clinker annually.
The project aims to significantly decrease the emissions originating from calcinations of raw materials in the clinker kiln. Emissions from calcinations can be decreased by adding Alternative Raw Materials (AMC), which do not contain carbonates. Such alternative materials are metallurgical slag such as ashes generated at power plants that use coal fuel.
Emission Reductions
Global Carbon BV is responsible for the full JI Cycle with respect to this project, from the Project Idea Note to ERU issuance. The JI project is already up and running since 2004 and the project plans to reduce approximately 968,373 tonnes CO2 until the year 2012.
