Zlatoust Metallurgical Works (ZMW) was founded in 1902 in Zlatoust town and it is one of the world’s leading producers of specialized steel and alloys products. ZMW’s specialization is the production of corrosion-resistant steel, tool, alloy, high-temperature resistant, and precision alloys and steel grades (about 1000 grades of steels and alloys) in the form of the hot-rolled bars, cold-drawn steel, and steel with special surface finishing. Its production of corrosion-resistant long steel represents more than 34 % of the Russian market.
The main purpose of the project is to implement energy saving measures, by:
-
Decommissioning the existing three open hearth furnaces and constructing a new electric arc furnace;
-
Installing continuous casting machine and reducing bloom production by introducing a blooming mill;
-
Modernizing the heating furnaces associated with the rolling mill.
The above process improvements will generate significant reductions in GHG emissions. Global Carbon BV is developing all documentation for this project including an approach to set the baseline and estimate the emissions reductions.
